Guru's Jazzmatazz, Vol. 1 is a jazz rap album from Guru, one half of the duo, Gang Star. This album is one of the first albums to combine a live jazz band with hip hop production and rapping. Jazzmatazz, Vol. 1 brought together a diverse group of jazz cats both old-school and new, including Roy Ayers, Donald Byrd, Lonnie Liston Smith, Ronny Jordan, and Courtney Pine. The album also features vocal collaborations with Carleen Anderson, N'Dea Davenport (of the Brand New Heavies) Dee C Lee and French rapper MC Solaar. Everybody knows who Nile Rogers is, and deservedly so, an architect of some of the most danceable hits of the late 70s and early 80s. But what about Patrick Adams? The man that Rogers described as “not only one of my favourite composers/producers… also one of my greatest influences.”
Patrick Adams is enmeshed in the DNA of modern dance music through a slew of recordings such as The Universal Robot Band's “Dance And Shake Your Tambourine” Inner Life's “Ain't No Mountain High Enough” and Musique's “Keep On Jumpin'”. The list goes on, but central to the legend is the 1975 album 'Atmosphere Strut', the point where Adams reinvented himself as a dancefloor maestro.
Adams was inspired one night when he heard Donna Summer's “Love To Love You Baby” prompting him to go into the studio and create something similar. The result was “Atmosphere Strut” a near ten-minute groove, built up on a metronomic swinging beat, Adams’ bass guitar and vibes, and a female chorus, all lead by Adams’ mini-Moog improvisation. Credited to the group name Cloud One, it became a hit on the floors of some of the most adventurous New York clubs such as the Paradise Garage and the Loft.
It was released on Peter Brown's P+P label, one of the more colourful characters around the Harlem music scene. As well as the club success, Brown arranged for Frankie Crocker, the most important R&B DJ in New York, to play “Atmosphere Strut”, giving it city-wide visibility. Adams went back into the studio to create more music under the Cloud One banner with the resulting, perfectly constructed, cosmic disco album.
The title track “Atmosphere Strut” was rapidly absorbed as a club classic and as dance music became a world-wide phenomenon “Disco Juice” was a much-sampled groove in house music while hip-hop stars from Nas to Mac Miller sampled “Dust To Dust”.

The Diggin' in the Crates Crew, comunemente abbreviato in D.I.T.C., è un collettivo hip hop di New York City. È stata fondata da Diamond D e Showbiz e il suo nome deriva dall'arte di cercare dischi da campionare per la produzione. I membri hanno ottenuto un riconoscimento sostanziale e coerente nell'industria musicale e nei circoli hip hop. Hanno collaborato con artisti underground e commerciali di tutto il mondo. Tutti i membri provengono dal Bronx, ad eccezione del defunto Big L di Harlem e di O.C. da Brooklyn.
D.I.T.C., "The Official" Version è una versione alternativa dell'album omonimo di D.I.T.C. che non era ufficialmente disponibile su vinile al momento della sua uscita iniziale tramite Tommy Boy quando divenne evidente che il gruppo manteneva i diritti su vinile dell'album.
La versione ufficiale ha un elenco di tracce diverso con molte canzoni che sono versioni totalmente diverse da quelle presenti nel primo album e anche 2 tracce che non erano su D.I.T.C. affatto - "All Love" e "We Known For That" (che in realtà è un remix del singolo 12" "Internationally Known"). L'album è prodotto esecutivamente da Show e ripubblicato su D.I.T.C. Records con distribuzione da Fat Beats Distribuzione -20 anni dopo la sua iniziale tiratura limitata.
Molte delle canzoni appaiono in forme remixate che dovevano ancora essere pubblicate, alcuni remix e alcune versioni originali. I punti salienti includono "Where Ya At"; la collaborazione Big Pun/Milano ma qui, invece, è impostato su uno strepitoso remix di DJ Premier. Allo stesso modo, "Way Of Life" presenta un ritmo Buckwild completamente diverso, che in realtà è la versione originale del brano, che è in netto contrasto con l'inno di B-Boy ascoltato nell'album Tommy Boy.
