A: I Ain’t No Joke / B: Eric B. Is On The Cut Craft a record iconic enough and, no matter what you’ve sampled to make it, you’re destined to be sampled more yourself. It helps if you’ve got Rakim’s voice, of course. When he and Eric B went into Power Play Studios in New York in 1987 to record ‘I Ain’t No Joke’, their next move was highly anticipated due to the critical success of the duo’s first record, ‘Eric B. Is President’. Rakim was already seen as a masterful MC with a distinctive slow, baritone flow and seamless access to a rich vein of words not often heard in hip-hop. People’s first exposure to this track was on the landmark ‘Paid in Full’ album, and it was clear this had the potential to jump off as a single. The repetitive, simply scratched sample of ‘Pass the Peas’ by the JB’s was an infectious ear worm that needed a truly strong MC to stand up to it. He did more than that – here Rakim spun timeless lyrics and lines that would go on to be sampled and referred to dozens of times down through hip-hop history. He took one of rap’s great instrumentals and wrestled it to the floor. Of course, you can’t have Eric B & Rakim without Eric B. The DJ gets his time to shine on the flip, and while he isn’t a man renowned for his dexterity and turntablist skills, the track still knocks. Maybe it’s because Eric B has already realised what many would come to work out later: If you haven’t got Rakim on your record, at least scratch his vocals. This re-release comes with a brand new cover utilising some of Dan Lish’s trademark artwork

Due to label politics at the time, the album unfortunately was never released. 14 Years later in 2009 the official version of “THE LP” became available on CD & Double Vinyl LP. Due to high demand and in honor of the 10 Year Anniversary of this album being manufactured, Paul Sea Productions is now offering a very special limited edition metallic silver colored reissue with a variant colored record jacket. “THE LP” includes bonus unreleased songs and a few rare unearthed alternate demo versions of classic tracks such as the “Mad Scientist”. It also includes “I Juswanna Chill”, “That Bullsh*t”, the title track “The LP”, “Hard”, “One Plus One” featuring NAS, the newly polished up “Queens Lounge” and many more including the unreleased single “Amaman” b/w “Bowne” that was available on the now out of print 12” vinyl. “Amman” is a coming of age song where Xtra P kicks profound lyrics over a funky soulful track with an intense horn filled chorus. “Bowne” is Large Pro paying homage to his Alma mater: John Bowne High School in Flushing Queens, NY. “Bowne” has an infectious melody with thought provoking lyrics describing how he got his start producing and Emceeing back in High School. All songs are produced by The Large Professor except “Large Pro:Verbs” produced by Vandamator & “Spacey” produced by Toney Rome. This album is officially sanctioned by The Large Professor and being released through Paul Sea Productions. “The LP” is from the BOOM BAP era of Hip Hop... Before “JIGGY” and champagne spitting, money talking rappers became prevalent. As Large Professor states “This album represents a time in the 1990s when Hip Hop was more about the good times, when artists were rich in music and rich in talent and it wasn’t about how much money you had.”

Curren$y, the New Orleans rapper - who has amassed a cult following, and who bounced around labels such as No Limit, Cash Money, Dd172 in his early days to finally running his own imprint, Jet Life Recordings - has paved his own path, his own way. As the first release on Damon Dash’s new imprint, Dd172, Pilot Talk paired him with producer Ski Beatz (best known as a producer on JAY Z’s seminal project, Unreasonable Doubt). While an unlikely pairing, the two artists’ styles complimented each other in an indescribable way which has lead to Curren$y’s long, and independently successful career.
