REISSUE PRESS USA Guru's Jazzmatazz, Vol. 1 is a jazz rap album from Guru, one half of the duo, Gang Star. This album is one of the first albums to combine a live jazz band with hip hop production and rapping. Jazzmatazz, Vol. 1 brought together a diverse group of jazz cats both old-school and new, including Roy Ayers, Donald Byrd, Lonnie Liston Smith, Ronny Jordan, and Courtney Pine. The album also features vocal collaborations with Carleen Anderson, N'Dea Davenport (of the Brand New Heavies) Dee C Lee and French rapper MC Solaar. The variety of guest artists adds diversity and originality to each track, and gives the album a distinct jazz feel. Continuing with it's Respect The Classics campaign, UMe reissues this classic album back on standard weigh vinyl.

Dopo 25 anni trascorsi a vivere il suo sogno come uno dei produttori più rispettati dell'hip hop, Hi-Tek sta tornando alle sue radici con un nuovissimo trio di LP in vinile strumentali. "Werk Road (1997 MPC 60)" è il terzo volume della serie, ciascuno contenente una selezione di ritmi restaurati e rimasterizzati, scelti con cura da un archivio di nastri DAT. Questi LP riescono sia a fornire una finestra sullo sviluppo di Tek sia a far luce sul lavoro di un musicista già di enorme talento i cui ritmi sarebbero suonati perfettamente a suo agio nelle pubblicazioni classiche della metà degli anni '90. Il 1997 è l'anno in cui il nome Hi-Tek comincia a farsi conoscere in tutto il mondo, in gran parte grazie all'infiammabile scena indie-rap. Si era allontanato dai Beatbox Studios, ormai chiusi, nella sua città natale di Cincinnati e aveva iniziato a costruire il suo primo vero studio casalingo nel suo nuovo appartamento in Werk Road. Con una drum machine Akai MPC 60 presa in prestito come base, ha iniziato a sfornare beat a un ritmo più prolifico che mai. Oltre ai posizionamenti sugli LP di debutto di Mood e Royal Flush, Tek si sarebbe fatto un nome nel 1997 come metà del duo Reflection Eternal con l'MC di Brooklyn Talib Kweli. Il loro 12” “Fortified Live” di debutto presso la Rawkus Records è stato un successo immediato e lo ha rapidamente collocato al vertice della classe dei beatmaker emergenti. Il suo equilibrio unico di groove guidati dalla linea di basso dietro campioni pieni di sentimento lo avrebbe portato alla fine ad essere molto richiesto da artisti in tutto lo spettro del genere, e in breve tempo stava producendo per Common, Snoop Dogg, Raphael Saadiq, Dr. Dre, 50. Cent e altri da tutto il paese. Il lavoro presentato su "Werk Road (1997 MPC 60)" rivela un artista che non solo sarebbe diventato uno dei produttori più rispettati del rap, ma uno degli ambasciatori culturali della sua città natale di Cincinnati per oltre 25 anni. Nel 2022, Hi-Tek è stato inserito nella Cincinnati Black Music Walk of Fame insieme a luminari come The Isley Brothers, Bootsy Collins e Midnight Star, e rimane l'artista hip hop di maggior successo che la città abbia mai prodotto.

È stata fondata da Diamond D e Showbiz e il suo nome deriva dall'arte di cercare dischi da campionare per la produzione. I membri hanno ottenuto un riconoscimento sostanziale e coerente nell'industria musicale e nei circoli hip hop. Hanno collaborato con artisti underground e commerciali di tutto il mondo. Tutti i membri provengono dal Bronx, ad eccezione del defunto Big L di Harlem e di O.C. da Brooklyn. D.I.T.C., "The Official" Version è una versione alternativa dell'album omonimo di D.I.T.C. che non era ufficialmente disponibile su vinile al momento della sua uscita iniziale tramite Tommy Boy quando divenne evidente che il gruppo manteneva i diritti su vinile dell'album. La versione ufficiale ha un elenco di tracce diverso con molte canzoni che sono versioni totalmente diverse da quelle presenti nel primo album e anche 2 tracce che non erano su D.I.T.C. affatto - "All Love" e "We Known For That" (che in realtà è un remix del singolo 12" "Internationally Known"). L'album è prodotto esecutivamente da Show e ripubblicato su D.I.T.C. Records con distribuzione da Fat Beats Distribuzione -20 anni dopo la sua iniziale tiratura limitata. Molte delle canzoni appaiono in forme remixate che dovevano ancora essere pubblicate, alcuni remix e alcune versioni originali. I punti salienti includono "Where Ya At"; la collaborazione Big Pun/Milano ma qui, invece, è impostato su uno strepitoso remix di DJ Premier. Allo stesso modo, "Way Of Life" presenta un ritmo Buckwild completamente diverso, che in realtà è la versione originale del brano, che è in netto contrasto con l'inno di B-Boy ascoltato nell'album Tommy Boy.

When it comes to authentic, ride-or-die hip-hop, few crews have as much resonance as Mobb Deep. Featuring two double-threat MCs who also produced - Havoc and the sadly-departed Prodigy - the crew changed the hardcore rap game in 1995 with their sophomore classic The Infamous, and went on to rule the dark corners of hip-hop for the second half of the 90s and well into the 2000s. After multiple Mobb Deep platters in the '90s, Prodigy entered the 2000s as a solo artist with force, rolling over a stomping, piano-freaked backdrop laced by producer The Alchemist, with "Keep It Thoro." It has held up over time, proving itself as an anthemic classic that the streets and clubs still respect. Flaunting a smooth-but-menacing flow, Prodigy's no-nonsense lyricism on "Keep It Thoro" is prototypical modern age brag rap. Countless MCs have followed his flow, from Fabolous to Joey Bada$$. The song is short and sweet, clocking in at just over 3 minutes. There are no wasted verses, just hardcore rhymes that stay with you. But "Thoro" was the tip of the iceberg on what proved to be one of the more coveted rap full-lengths of the era. The album boasted other charting singles, including "Rock Dat Shit" and "Y.B.E." (featuring B.G.), but it can be argued that the album's real gems are buried deeper. "Genesis," "What U Rep" (featuring Noreaga) and "Three" are all sinister yet pensive. "Wanna Be Thugs" and "Delt With The Bullshit" are strong and evocative Mobb Deep cuts, featuring production and vocals by Havoc. And alongside other standouts, perhaps the deepest cut of all - especially in light of Prodigy's recent and way-too-soon passing due to complications from Sickle Cell Anemia - is "You Can Never Feel My Pain," which details the health issues and challenges this talented MC and producer had been facing his whole life. H.N.I.C. was Prodigy's first solo album, but it is perhaps his best. Among fans he will never be forgotten, for his skills, his storytelling and his no-B.S. approach to the art of MCing.
